About the role#
As a Student Nurse Intern in the Emergency Department, you will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) to provide patient care and support. This role focuses on gaining clinical experience by assisting with bedside care, monitoring patient conditions, and supporting the healthcare team in a fast-paced environment. You will collaborate with patients, families, and staff to deliver care that meets cultural, linguistic, and age-specific needs.
What you'll do#
- Work with an RN preceptor to formulate and carry out care plans.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, ambulation, and oral care.
- Perform basic nursing procedures and bedside care as directed by the RN.
- Monitor and record vital signs, intake and output, and patient weight.
- Answer patient call lights promptly and greet patients professionally.
- Document care in the electronic medical record immediately after it is provided.
- Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Help with emergency care tasks, including crash cart checks, CPR, and Code Blue responses.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized patient environment.
- Report any changes in patient condition or concerns to licensed staff immediately.
- Keep a validated Skills Checklist available at all times.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited RN program: completion of the third semester for ASN tracks or the fourth semester for BSN tracks.
- Current BLS certification.
- Ability to obtain Kaweah Health-approved crisis intervention training within 60 days of hire.
- Participation in an approved Work Study Program affiliated with your nursing school, or current employment at Kaweah Health while enrolled in a qualifying partnership program.
- Ability to submit updated transcripts to HR each term and notify management of any changes to nursing program enrollment.
- Current California Certified Nursing Assistant certification is preferred.
