About the role#
As a Student Nurse Intern in the M/S Ortho Neuro department, you will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to support patient care. This role focuses on protecting health, preventing illness, and alleviating suffering while gaining hands-on experience in a professional practice setting. You will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and assist in formulating patient care plans.
What you'll do#
- Perform basic bedside care and nursing procedures as delegated by your RN preceptor.
- Assist with activities of daily living, including bathing, ambulation, and oral care.
- Help with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, including room orientation.
- Monitor and record patient vitals, intake and output, weight, and height.
- Answer patient call lights within two minutes and respond to patient needs.
- Document care provided in the electronic medical record.
- Assist with emergency care, including crash cart checks and responding to Code Blue.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment.
- Collect, label, and deliver specimens.
- Report any changes in a patient's condition or concerns to licensed staff immediately.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited nursing program: completion of the 3rd semester for ASN students or the 4th semester for BSN students.
- Participation in an approved Work Study Program or current Kaweah Health employment in an eligible nursing partnership.
- Current BLS certification.
- Ability to complete Kaweah Health approved crisis intervention training within 60 days of hire.
- A current California Certified Nursing Assistant certification is preferred.
- Requirement to submit updated transcripts to HR each term.
