About the role#
K2 Space Corporation is seeking a Vehicle Operations Engineering Intern for a 12-week program during the summer of 2027. You will join the team responsible for the build, test, and flight operations of our satellite systems. This role involves working alongside design and responsible engineers to develop manufacturing methods, tooling, and build flows for spacecraft components. You will gain hands-on experience across multiple subsystems, with opportunities to improve manufacturing efficiency and reliability.
What you'll do#
- Support HITL table maintenance and operations.
- Develop test procedures to confirm spacecraft hardware and software flightworthiness.
- Design, build, and deploy ground support equipment to enable new test capabilities.
- Create innovative manufacturing systems for large spacecraft assemblies, including welded or bolted structures, mechanisms, and electrical subassemblies.
- Build and integrate flight parts using custom tooling you help develop.
- Investigate and troubleshoot vehicle issues to reduce future failures.
- Partner with manufacturing engineers to perform research and development on novel technologies.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in mechanical, electrical, aerospace, or a related engineering discipline.
- At least 6 months of technical engineering experience outside of a university classroom setting, such as research, extracurricular projects, or prior internships.
- Ability to work on-site at our headquarters in Torrance for a minimum of 12 weeks.
