About the role#
K2 Space is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our team for a 3-month term during Summer 2027. You will work alongside our engineers to develop complex structures and mechanisms for high-power satellites. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to space hardware development in a professional environment while maintaining ownership of your specific projects.
What you'll do#
- Design, analyze, test, and build mechanical systems and structures.
- Own and execute a project that directly impacts our mission with support from a mentor.
- Apply hand calculations, computational methods, and development tests to understand the physics of your work.
- Engage with a cross-functional team to perform hardware trades.
- Solve aerospace challenges by applying your academic and practical knowledge.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in mechanical, aerospace, or a relevant engineering discipline.
- At least 6 months of experience applying technical engineering skills outside of the classroom, such as research, extracurricular projects, or previous internships.
- Must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR or otherwise eligible for an export control license.
- Familiarity with CAD software, free-body diagrams, statics, or mechanics of materials is helpful.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship based on-site at our headquarters in Torrance, California.
- You must be available for a minimum 12-week commitment.
