About the role#
J.D. Irving, Limited is hiring Mechanical Engineering students for the Winter 2027 work term. You will work within our Pulp and Paper Division, supporting mill operations and engineering teams at our locations in Saint John and Utopia, New Brunswick. This is a full-time, paid position.
What you'll do#
- Develop project concepts and complete preliminary design assignments.
- Prepare project funding applications and justifications.
- Manage construction contracts and requisition materials or services.
- Support project construction, commissioning, and start-up activities.
- Coordinate with contractors and mill personnel to plan and execute work packages.
- Collaborate with the reliability team to perform root cause failure analysis on equipment.
- Review and optimize the preventive maintenance program.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Mechanical Engineering degree program with good academic standing.
- A safety-first mindset and the ability to work well in a team.
- Strong time management skills to handle multiple projects.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- A long-term interest in pursuing a career in engineering.
