About the role#
As a Research and Development student, you will help design, plan, and execute improvements to processes, tools, and equipment. You will support shipbuilding operations by working on initiatives that drive innovation and continuous improvement. This role requires working on-site in Halifax.
What you'll do#
- Analyze and improve production processes using engineering methodologies.
- Support R&D projects from initial proposal through execution and evaluation.
- Build project proposals that define scope, objectives, timelines, budgets, and resource needs.
- Test equipment performance and support pilot projects to validate new technologies.
- Apply lean and Six Sigma principles to optimize workflows.
- Use project management tools to plan, monitor, and report on complex tasks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to influence change.
- Work independently under general supervision to deliver results.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a 4-year Bachelor of Engineering program.
- 0 to 2 years of experience.
- Analytical problem-solving and data analysis skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to engage employees at all levels.
- Ability to solve problems from both technical and business perspectives.
- Capability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Experience supporting the facilitation of workshops and business updates.
- Eligibility for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
- Ability to obtain Canadian Government Security clearance.
- Ability to meet U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements.
