The Southern Minnesota Congregational Organizing Fellow will work to develop leadership and build shared power across race, class, and faith. This role focuses on building a network of 15-20 churches to advocate for a just economy and democracy. You will report to a lead organizer and work as part of a team to advance racial, economic, and climate justice campaigns.
What you'll do#
- Build trusting relationships with staff and community leaders by identifying shared interests and goals.
- Implement an organizing program across 15-20 churches using tactics such as house meetings, congregational forums, and one-on-one outreach.
- Recruit and train volunteer leaders to conduct meetings with community members, friends, and family.
- Lead public actions and meetings with elected officials to advocate for community needs.
- Expand the church network through consistent canvassing and leadership development efforts.
What you'll need#
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice and the ability to connect this work to personal motivations.
- Experience working with diverse faith communities and stakeholders across different cultural, racial, and economic backgrounds.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and exercise sound judgment in a deadline-driven environment.
- Proficiency with technology, including Google Workspace and common communication apps.
- A valid driver's license and access to a reliable car.
- A strong work ethic, the ability to work independently, and a willingness to receive feedback.
Location & details#
- Location: Rochester, Minnesota.
- Term: 6-month temporary position, Summer 2026.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: This position requires flexibility, including frequent work during evenings and weekends to accommodate community availability.
- Status: Full-time, paid position.
