Casework Intern (Fall 2026)

About the role#

The Casework Intern will support the Richmond office’s Casework department in providing direct assistance to newly arrived refugees and other eligible populations. This role involves working closely with caseworkers to facilitate client stabilization, service coordination, and community integration during the initial resettlement period. This is an unpaid, full-time internship for the Fall 2026 term.

What you'll do#

• Attend the IRC Volunteer/Intern Orientation.
• Support caseworkers with client appointments and service coordination.
• Assist clients in accessing community resources and navigating public systems.
• Help clients complete applications and required paperwork for services and benefits.
• Support cultural orientation sessions and client education activities.
• Prepare required documentation for case files and enter case notes.
• Assist with transportation coordination and accompaniment to appointments as needed.
• Manage scheduling, follow-up communication, and general administrative tasks.
• Organize and maintain client files and records.
• Coordinate donations, supplies, and other client needs as assigned.
• Advocate for clients during service delivery while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to organizational policies.

What you'll need#

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with a detail-oriented and reliable approach to tasks.
• Ability to successfully navigate a complex environment.
• Access to a personal vehicle and a clean driving record.
• Academic background in fields such as Psychology, Sociology, Human Resources, Public Health, International Relations, or Political Science.
