About the role#
The International Rescue Committee in Richmond provides support to newly arrived refugees and other eligible populations during their initial resettlement period. As a Casework Intern for the Fall 2026 term, you will work with staff to help clients stabilize, coordinate services, and integrate into the community. This is an unpaid, full-time, on-site internship.
What you'll do#
- Attend the IRC volunteer and intern orientation.
- Support caseworkers with client appointments and service coordination.
- Help clients access community resources and navigate public systems.
- Assist clients with completing applications and paperwork for services and benefits.
- Prepare required documentation for case files and enter case notes.
- Support cultural orientation sessions and client education activities.
- Coordinate transportation and accompany clients to appointments.
- Assist with scheduling, follow-up communication, and administrative tasks.
- Organize and maintain client files and records.
- Coordinate donations and supplies as assigned.
- Represent the IRC professionally while advocating for clients.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all internal policies.
- Track hours and submit monthly timesheets.
What you'll need#
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work reliably and meet deadlines.
- Capacity to navigate complex environments.
- Access to a car and a clean driving record.
- Enrollment in or background related to Psychology, Sociology, Human Resources, Public Health, International Relations, or Political Science.
