About the role#
Independence Health System is hiring a Nurse Extern to provide patient care under the direction of an RN preceptor. This position involves direct patient care, supporting the interdisciplinary team, and maintaining a safe clinical environment. This is a part-time, on-site role with a rolling term.
What you'll do#
- Assist the RN preceptor with direct patient care and diagnostic or treatment procedures.
- Perform nursing interventions and document care according to policy and procedure.
- Administer medications and perform medication reconciliation.
- Assist with fall and VTE prevention.
- Help patients with activities of daily living, including dietary and hygiene support.
- Aid in ambulating, turning, positioning, and transporting patients.
- Answer call lights and report observations to the patient's nurse.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe environment.
- Demonstrate professional behavior and customer service skills.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited Registered Nurse Program approved by the State Board of Nursing.
- BSN students must be entering their senior year and have completed the medical/surgical clinical component.
- Diploma or Associate students must be entering their final year.
- Proof of continued enrollment, passing grades each semester, and good academic standing.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (CPR and AED) through the American Heart Association.
- Valid Act 33, Act 34, and Act 73 FBI clearances with renewal.
