About the role#
Micro-LAM, Inc. is seeking an Innovations Engineer Intern to join its product development team in Portage, Michigan. This role involves designing, prototyping, and testing components for optics manufacturing. The position is available on a rolling basis and can continue throughout the school year and into the summer semester.
What you'll do#
- Undertake product development tasks, including writing and verifying specifications, maintaining documentation, and validating equipment and processes.
- Collaborate with a team to invent and create concepts and designs for new products, processes, and test methods.
- Design, procure, and fabricate simple tooling and fixtures.
- Design parts using SolidWorks.
- Perform engineering tests and experiments, including prototyping and testing parts for current and future products.
- Prepare standard reports to communicate results to the technical team.
- Identify areas for improvement, suggest solutions, and submit idea records.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s or graduate degree program in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Civil, or Chemical Engineering.
- Proficiency in CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks to meet short deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A proactive desire to participate and contribute innovative ideas.
- Knowledge in machining, metal working, and quality control is considered a plus.
