About the role#
The Student Professional Nurse (SPN) position is part of the Methodist Advancement into Professional Practice (MAPP) program. You will work alongside a nursing preceptor to build clinical competency and confidence as you transition from a student to a new graduate nurse. This role involves providing care under the direction of a Registered Nurse while following Houston Methodist ICARE values of integrity, compassion, accountability, respect, and excellence.
What you'll do#
- Perform direct patient care, treatments, and procedures under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
- Assist with patient activities of daily living, including hygiene, comfort, and safety.
- Report patient observations, conditions, and problems to licensed personnel.
- Participate in nursing care conferences and discharge planning.
- Act as a steward of resources by ensuring the best use of equipment and materials.
What you'll need#
- High School diploma or equivalent education.
- Enrollment in a school of nursing program with a minimum 3.2 GPA.
- Successful completion of at least one clinical rotation.
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English to ensure patient and employee safety.
