About the role#
The Park Services Internship with Hillsborough County offers students hands-on experience in local government operations, park management, and community engagement. This internship provides a structured learning environment where you will gain practical skills while contributing to the daily operations of the parks and recreation department.
What you'll do#
You will dedicate 40 hours per week to a combination of work assignments, structured learning experiences, and professional development. Responsibilities include:
- Work under professional supervision to develop an understanding of daily park operations and build customer service skills in both office and outdoor settings.
- Collaborate with local sports organizations to disseminate information to the public and assist in the administration of programs, park improvements, and projects.
- Gain insight into recreation facility operations, scheduling, and the logistical aspects of maintaining community parks.
- Participate in tasks such as evaluating park areas, developing improvement plans, processing facility usage requests, updating standard operating procedures, and assisting with budget analysis for park projects.
- Engage with community volunteers, seasonal staff, and contracted service providers.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a master’s or bachelor’s degree in Sports and Recreation Management, Parks and Recreation Management, Business Management, Public Administration, Civil Construction, Agronomy, Urban Forestry, Education, or other related fields.
- At least one year of experience managing administrative projects or public government-related activities, or current enrollment in a relevant degree program.
- Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License.
- Ability to perform medium work, including exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
- Ability to work outdoors for long periods and tolerate environmental factors such as sun, pollen, dust, and grass.
