About the role#
The Arlington County Police Department offers an internship for students interested in criminal justice. You will work within the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) alongside detectives. This role provides a direct look at the investigative process, where you will be treated as a colleague and contribute to case strategies and recommendations. You will also interact with the community to help citizens navigate the criminal justice system.
What you'll do#
- Assist detectives with investigations into larcenies, harassment, assaults, and other criminal cases.
- Interview victims and witnesses, then document information in supplemental reports.
- Help identify suspects and prepare cases for prosecution.
- Support special research projects.
- Accompany detectives into the field to assist at crime scenes and other locations.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0.
- At least 18 years of age.
- US Citizenship.
- Strong writing, communication, and time-management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft computer systems.
- Preferred: A major in Criminal Justice, Psychology, or related fields, critical thinking skills, and prior experience in law enforcement or government.
Location & details#
- This is an unpaid, on-site internship located in Arlington, Virginia.
- You must commit to at least 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between 6:00 am and 10:00 pm.
- Candidates must pass a background check, including a criminal records check, driving record review, and a polygraph examination.
