    About the role#

    Arlington County Government is hiring for an Information Technology Intern to support Public Safety Information Technology (PSIT). This is a one-year, full-time, paid internship program. You will rotate across functional areas including the Project Management Office, Infrastructure Support, and the Applications Support & Data Team. This model provides broad exposure to technology careers in a public-sector environment while you work under the mentorship of senior staff.

    What you'll do#

    • Rotate through functional areas based on active projects and operational priorities.
    • Assist the Project Management Office with project planning, coordination, status reporting, documentation, and stakeholder communication.
    • Support technology initiatives from intake through delivery and learn public-sector project execution.
    • Help Infrastructure Support with desktops, mobile devices, servers, networking, and lifecycle replacement.
    • Provide technical support for critical systems used by first responders.
    • Assist the Applications Support & Data Team with business systems, public safety applications, and integrations.
    • Support data quality initiatives, including queries, analytics, testing, automation, and visualization.

    What you'll need#

    • Recent 2025 or 2026 college graduate with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or a currently enrolled Master’s student.
    • Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Cloud Computing, Computer Engineering, Business Analytics, Technical Project Management, or a related discipline.
    • Less than one year of professional-level work experience in the internship field.
    • Availability to work full-time (40 hours per week) between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
    • Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal records and background check.
    • Valid driver’s license or the ability to use alternative transportation to perform duties at various worksites.
    • Preferred: G.P.A. of 3.0 or above.
    • Preferred: Experience or coursework in networking, systems administration, cloud computing, or database management.
    • Preferred: Programming skills in Python, C#, JavaScript, or HTML/CSS.
    • Preferred: Familiarity with data analysis tools like Power BI or Excel.
    • Preferred: Experience with technical support, troubleshooting, or customer service.
    • Preferred: Familiarity with project management tools like JIRA, MS Planner, or Agile methodologies.

    Location & details#

    • Location: 1425 N. Courthouse Rd, Suite 7125, Arlington, VA 22201.
    • Work Modality: On-site and hybrid options available upon supervisor approval. This is not a fully remote position.
    • Benefits: Eligible for County government employee benefits, including health, dental, and leave.
