About the role#
This internship provides an opportunity to support the Employee Benefits Accounting and Reporting (EBAR) team at HII. You will gain exposure to corporate accounting processes and work directly with internal teams and external auditors. This is a full-time, 10-week summer position based on-site in Newport News, Virginia.
What you'll do#
- Process benefit and third-party vendor premium payments.
- Manage, track, and distribute Interdivisional Accounting Transfers (IATs).
- Post journal entries within the SAP system.
- Update invoice and directive logs while performing monthly reconciliations.
- Assist with monthly PRB and LTIP accounting processes.
- Complete monthly general ledger account reconciliations.
- Support special projects and data requests from HR, DCAA, IA, and Deloitte.
- Contribute to the Summer Intern Capstone project and participate in cohort events.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a 4-year college or university (or 2+2 program) as a rising junior or higher, or enrollment in a relevant Master's program.
- Pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Computer Science.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Ability to work a 40-hour work week for at least 10 weeks during the summer of 2027.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, is preferred.
- Completed collegiate coursework in Finance, Accounting, or Economics is preferred.
- US citizenship is required for this position.
