About the role#
This is an unpaid internship through the Hire Vets Now SkillBridge Program. It is designed for transitioning active-duty US military personnel to gain experience during their final 180 days of service. You will work on projects alongside a mentor and senior leadership. The goal is to align your military training and education with a potential full-time role at Newport News Shipbuilding.
What you'll do#
- Plan, prepare, and control production schedules to ensure materials arrive on time.
- Coordinate the flow of materials to meet production requirements.
- Advise management on the status of work in progress and material availability.
- Identify and report potential production problems.
- Schedule equipment and personnel based on master production schedules.
- Confirm material supply and demand.
- Prepare work orders or purchase requests for components and parts.
- Coordinate activities across departments like quality assurance, manufacturing, purchasing, and engineering.
- Expedite the movement of parts using move orders and stock transfers.
What you'll need#
- You must be active-duty military within your final 180 days of service to participate.
- Candidates may begin applying within the final 12 months of military service.
- Education and experience requirements depend on your specific Program of Instruction.
- Preferred educational backgrounds include Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Business Administration.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
