About the role#
The Next Mission EVS Leadership Academy is a 16-week program for transitioning service members. It prepares you for leadership careers in healthcare Environmental Services. You will gain hands-on experience, mentorship, and exposure to hospital operations. The program focuses on identifying and developing military talent for potential placement into Assistant Director or Director roles within HHS.
What you'll do#
- Learn and apply the fundamentals of hospital Environmental Services operations.
- Provide leadership that supports a team environment built on morale, accountability, quality, and respect.
- Participate in daily inspections, assessments, rounding, and quality-control activities.
- Work alongside EVS leadership to develop skills in recruiting, training, coaching, and team development.
- Support initiatives to improve patient satisfaction and learn healthcare safety and infection prevention standards.
- Analyze operational data, including staffing, scheduling, and budgeting, to identify improvements.
- Collaborate with facility leadership to achieve operational goals and complete a leadership development project.
What you'll need#
- Current member of the United States Military within 180 days of separation.
- Command approval to participate in the DoD SkillBridge Program.
- Ability to commit to the full 16-week program.
- Willingness to work onsite within an HHS healthcare facility.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to receive coaching and feedback.
- Willingness to relocate for future leadership opportunities when applicable.
Location & details#
- This is a non-paid program. Participants continue to receive military compensation and benefits through the Department of Defense.
- This role is on-site. Locations include Columbia, SC; Fort Leonard Wood, MO; Lawton, OK; El Paso, TX; Colorado Springs, CO; Columbus, GA; and Augusta, GA.
- Successful completion of the program does not guarantee employment.
