About the role#
The Next Mission EVS Leadership Academy is a 16-week DoD SkillBridge program. It prepares transitioning service members for leadership careers in healthcare Environmental Services. You will gain hands-on experience and mentorship while learning to apply your military leadership skills in a civilian healthcare setting. This is a non-paid program. Successful completion does not guarantee employment, but it serves as an evaluation for potential placement into Assistant Director or Director roles at HHS.
What you'll do#
- Learn the fundamentals of hospital Environmental Services operations.
- Provide leadership that supports a team environment focused on morale, accountability, quality, and respect.
- Work alongside leadership and team members in a healthcare environment.
- Participate in daily inspections, assessments, rounding, and quality-control activities.
- Support initiatives designed to improve patient and customer satisfaction.
- Develop skills in recruiting, training, coaching, and team development.
- Analyze operational data to identify improvement opportunities.
- Gain exposure to staffing, scheduling, labor management, and budgeting.
- Complete a leadership development project focused on improving operations.
What you'll need#
- Current status as a member of the United States Military within 180 days of separation.
- Approval from your command to participate in the DoD SkillBridge program.
- Ability to commit to the full 16-week program.
- Demonstrated leadership experience from military service.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to work on-site at an HHS healthcare facility.
- Willingness to relocate for future leadership opportunities.
