State and Local Tax Internship

About the role#

This is a paid, full-time summer internship within the State and Local Tax (SALT) service line at HCVT. Interns gain hands-on experience in tax preparation and research while working alongside firm professionals to develop technical and professional skills.

What you'll do#

• Prepare state and local income tax returns and related work papers for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and trusts.
• Prepare indirect state tax returns for multiple entities.
• Draft responses to technical correspondence from taxing authorities.
• Identify accounting and income tax issues and propose resolution strategies.
• Conduct tax technical research and perform self-reviews of work.
• Complete projects within established engagement timelines and budget guidelines.
• Utilize firm tax preparation software and participate in professional development activities with assigned mentors.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a master’s degree in accounting or taxation, with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and July 2028.
• Minimum overall and accounting GPAs of 3.0.
• Active membership in Beta Alpha Psi or another campus accounting organization.
• Strong technical aptitude and effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Leadership abilities, including sound judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• High attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks in a collaborative environment.

Location & details#

• Locations: Irvine, CA and Long Beach, CA.
• Term: Summer 2027 (Mid-June through Mid-August).
• Commitment: 40 hours per week.
• Modality: Hybrid.
