About the role#
This internship provides hands-on training for individuals who want to start a career in healthcare. You will work in an outpatient mental health setting to learn office operations and clinical support tasks. The program lasts 3 to 6 months and requires a total of 600 hours to earn a certificate of completion. This is a voluntary, unpaid position.
What you'll do#
- Manage patient flow and the waiting area.
- Handle patient check-in and check-out procedures.
- Use the MEDENT system for Electronic Health Record tasks.
- Schedule appointments and manage professional phone calls.
- Assist with administrative duties like faxing, copying, and filing.
- Learn medical terminology and the basics of psychiatric services.
- Gain an introduction to insurance billing and coding.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient privacy.
- Practice professionalism and discretion in a healthcare environment.
What you'll need#
- You must be 18 or older.
- You must be a high school graduate.
- You need to be able to commit to a consistent schedule.
- You must pass a basic background check and drug screening.
- You should be motivated to gain healthcare experience for your career.
Location & details#
- Location: Lutz, Florida.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Flexible, with a minimum of 20 hours per week (10 hours per day).
- Compensation: This is an unpaid internship.
