Apprentice Technician / Student

About the role#

The Apprentice Technician role is a work-based learning program conducted in partnership with Wake Tech. This position combines classroom instruction with on-site training to prepare students for a career in mechanical repair. The program structure consists of three semesters with a schedule of two days of classes and three days of paid work experience per week.

What you'll do#

• Perform routine mechanical repairs on Material Handling equipment.
• Assist experienced technicians with larger-scale equipment repairs.
• Utilize hand and power tools to disassemble, reassemble, test, and repair components.
• Maintain safety standards by following shop practices and using required personal protective equipment.
• Complete necessary service documentation, including time entry, service reports, parts orders, and warranty tags.
• Use computer-based information systems to access troubleshooting guides, wiring schematics, and technical manuals.

What you'll need#

• High school diploma or GED.
• Mechanical aptitude and basic technical knowledge.
• Ability to perform physical tasks, including stooping, kneeling, bending, and climbing into or under equipment.
• Capacity to lift and position parts weighing up to 112 pounds.
• Strong cognitive reasoning and problem-solving skills.
• Basic familiarity with PC-based equipment and parts information systems.
