About the role#
As an Apprentice Technician, you will split your time between classes at Wake Tech and hands-on training at our Hope Mills branch. This program involves three semesters of school two days a week, paired with three days of paid work-based learning. You will gain experience in mechanical repairs while learning how to document service work and navigate business operations within the service department.
What you'll do#
- Learn and follow safety practices for shop operations and equipment usage.
- Perform routine mechanical repairs on Material Handling equipment.
- Assist other technicians with larger repair projects.
- Complete service documentation, including time entry, service reports, and parts orders.
- Use hand and power tools to disassemble, repair, and test equipment.
- Use computer systems to assist with diagnostics, troubleshooting, and parts ordering.
- Clean parts and equipment as part of the repair process.
What you'll need#
- A high school education or GED.
- Mechanical inclination and basic technical knowledge.
- Cognitive reasoning and problem-solving skills to apply technical information and instructions.
- Ability to lift and position parts up to 112 pounds.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, and climb onto or under equipment daily.
- Exposure to PC-based equipment and parts information.
