    About the role#

    The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking students for the Future Opportunities Stream, a centralized intake program for roles in trades, maintenance, labour, and occupational health and safety. These temporary positions provide hands-on experience and mentorship while supporting the upkeep of provincial infrastructure and public services. This is a pool-based recruitment process where students are matched to available opportunities based on skills and interests.

    What you'll do#

    • Support the maintenance of government buildings, parks, roadways, and public spaces.
    • Assist with grounds maintenance, including mowing and property care.
    • Help with construction and repair tasks such as equipment operation, culvert installation, and line painting.
    • Participate in traffic control and support electrical system maintenance for road safety.
    • Gain exposure to occupational health and safety legislation, hazard identification, and safety program initiatives.
    • Work alongside experienced public sector professionals to develop transferable skills.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a high school or post-secondary program with a plan to return to studies in the next academic term.
    • Enthusiasm, motivation, and a willingness to learn.
    • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
    • Physical ability to perform tasks, which may include lifting, bending, and working outdoors in varied weather conditions.
    • A commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
    • Relevant majors include Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, Public Health, Human Resources, Psychology, Communications, and Criminal Justice.
