    About the role#

    The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking students for the Future Opportunity Stream, a centralized intake program for roles in trades, maintenance, labour, and occupational health and safety (OHS). These temporary, full-time summer positions provide hands-on experience and mentorship within the public sector. Students will be matched to various opportunities across the province based on operational needs and individual interests.

    What you'll do#

    • Support the upkeep and maintenance of government buildings, parks, roadways, and public infrastructure.
    • Assist with grounds maintenance, including mowing and property care.
    • Participate in construction and repair tasks, such as road maintenance, culvert installation, and line painting.
    • Help with traffic control and the assembly or testing of electrical and signal components.
    • Gain exposure to occupational health and safety by assisting with hazard identification, safety program support, and workplace inspections.
    • Work alongside experienced public sector professionals to develop transferable skills.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a high school or post-secondary program with plans to return to studies in the next academic term.
    • Enthusiasm, motivation, and a strong willingness to learn.
    • Ability to work safely and follow instructions in a hands-on environment.
    • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
    • Physical ability to perform tasks, which may include lifting, bending, and working outdoors in varied weather conditions.
    • A commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.

    • Location: Various locations throughout Nova Scotia.
    • Term: Summer 2026.
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Compensation: Paid position.
