About the role#
GM Performance Power Units is hiring a CNC Manufacturing Intern for Summer 2027. You will work on-site in Concord, NC, to support our manufacturing team. This role provides hands-on experience in a machine shop that produces precision parts for advanced propulsion systems. You will assist experienced machinists and learn how to maintain quality and safety standards.
What you'll do#
- Assist with setting up and operating CNC machines under supervision.
- Perform basic in-process inspections to monitor part quality.
- Report measurement results or issues to the quality team.
- Learn to make minor machine adjustments with guidance.
- Aid in programming CNC machines while working with senior team members.
- Create tool lists, setup sheets, and in-process documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of programs, tools, and machining activities.
- Keep your work area, machines, and tools clean and organized.
- Follow all shop safety procedures.
- Handle other duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent completion of a machining, manufacturing, or engineering program.
- A basic understanding of CNC machining concepts.
- Willingness to learn CNC controls such as Fanuc or Siemens.
- Comfort using basic measuring tools like calipers and micrometers.
- Experience with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to handle multiple projects independently.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software is a plus.
- Ability to stand and walk in diverse operational environments including loud or high-traffic areas.
