About the role#
As an Embedded Software Engineering Intern at General Matter, you will work on the software that powers our enrichment systems. You will develop code to command actuators and process high-speed signals where safety and accuracy are essential. You will work alongside electrical, chemical, manufacturing, and nuclear engineers to build reliable industrial systems.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the development of safety-critical embedded software for industrial systems.
- Build low-level firmware in C, C++, Rust, or PLCs to control electromechanical actuators and execute fault-tolerant control logic.
- Support the design of control architectures, state machines, and data acquisition systems.
- Contribute to automated build, test, and validation infrastructure.
- Partner with hardware and electrical engineers to integrate firmware, bring up new systems, and troubleshoot electromechanical challenges.
- Debug embedded systems using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other laboratory instrumentation.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program for Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Development experience in C, C++, Golang, Python, or Rust.
- A general understanding of embedded or low-level systems development.
- Strong grasp of engineering fundamentals.
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
