About the role#
We are looking for a Civil Engineering Intern with an environmental focus to support infrastructure and environmental initiatives at our nuclear fuel cycle facility. You will work with our environmental compliance, operations, and regulatory teams to support facility sustainability, water and soil management, and structural integrity standards.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the design and evaluation of stormwater management systems, secondary containment structures, wastewater treatment facilities, and foundation designs.
- Support regulatory compliance by ensuring civil engineering work aligns with NRC, EPA, DOE, and state environmental regulations.
- Conduct site and environmental assessments for soil stability, groundwater protection, flood mitigation, and seismic resilience.
- Help design and optimize waste handling and storage systems to minimize environmental impact.
- Support structural analysis to assess facility structures against natural hazards and aging infrastructure.
- Collaborate with nuclear, mechanical, and environmental engineers, health physicists, and regulatory specialists to develop solutions.
- Assist in project coordination, including tracking schedules, budgets, and safety requirements.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- A strong understanding of engineering fundamentals.
- General knowledge of industry standards for industrial facility construction and environmental compliance.
- Familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD, GIS, Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, or HY-8.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship based on-site in Los Angeles, California.
- The term for this position is Summer 2027.
