About the role#
The VIRGINIA Program Office manages the design, construction, and support of submarines for the U.S. Navy. Interns work across various functional areas, including engineering, finance, and contracts. You will gain exposure to both tactical and strategic planning while collaborating with teams ranging from front-line staff to executive leadership. This role provides practical experience in a defense manufacturing environment.
What you'll do#
- Support program man-power planning and oversight.
- Assist with contract oversight and execution.
- Work on systems, component, and life-cycle engineering products.
- Help with design product planning, design changes, and product consumption.
- Monitor material availability and vendor performance.
- Develop metrics and support construction readiness.
- Utilize digital processes and tools to assist program initiatives.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a full-time student in a Bachelor or Master of Science program for Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering, Business Administration, or Finance.
- Completion of at least your Freshman year before the internship begins.
- US citizenship and the ability to pass a medically supervised drug screen and background check.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week for at least eight consecutive weeks between May 2027 and September 2027.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to solve problems independently or within a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site internship based in Groton or New London, Connecticut.
- Interns are responsible for their own housing and transportation.
- This position is a paid, full-time summer commitment.
