About the role#
General Dynamics Electric Boat is seeking engineering students for a summer internship within the Radiological Controls directorate. This team ensures that all nuclear construction and repair work follows established radiological principles and regulatory requirements. You will work alongside experienced engineers to support the maintenance and interpretation of radiological control requirements for submarine projects.
What you'll do#
- Review and validate changes to the Ship System Status Report (SSSR).
- Evaluate existing processes and identify opportunities for innovation.
- Review technical direction for radiological work to ensure compliance with requirements.
- Analyze radiological deficiencies to determine how to prevent recurrence.
- Participate in the Radiological Emergency Response Organization (RERO).
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a full-time student at a college or university.
- Completion of at least your freshman year by Summer 2027.
- Pursuit of a B.S. or M.S. degree in Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Aerospace, Biomedical, or Environmental Engineering.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week for at least 8 consecutive weeks.
- Proficiency with the MS Office suite.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to solve problems constructively and learn new skills.
- Capacity to work both independently and within a team environment.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, full-time, on-site internship for Summer 2027.
- The role is based in Groton, Connecticut, at either the Groton Shipyard or the Naval Submarine Base New London.
- Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.
