About the role#
As a Material Control and Logistics Intern, you will work alongside senior staff and mentors to support the construction of submarine modules for the COLUMBIA and VIRGINIA class programs. You will gain hands-on experience in the defense industry by managing material movement, analyzing data, and solving technical problems related to nuclear submarine construction. You will be assigned a mentor on your first day to guide you through the duration of your internship.
What you'll do#
- Support the construction of submarine modules and maintain warehouse and buffer storage for all submarine programs.
- Manage design and construction activities by developing and using metrics to optimize program performance.
- Interface with engineers, designers, shipyard personnel, and Navy customers to develop solutions for design and construction challenges.
- Perform logistics management, data management, KPI reporting, and material availability analysis.
- Draft or modify policies and procedures to adapt to current shipyard practices.
- Review schedules and support up and downstream customers.
- Use computer-driven systems and reports to analyze documents and manage material, including the identification of scrap or excess.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a full-time student pursuing a Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Business, Supply Chain, or Logistics.
- Completion of your Freshman year prior to the start of the internship.
- US citizenship and the ability to pass a medically supervised drug screen and background check.
- Availability to work 40 hours per week for at least eight consecutive weeks between May 2027 and September 2027.
- Proficiency with the MS Office suite, including Word and Excel.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- You must be at least 18 years of age.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site, full-time paid internship for the Summer 2027 term.
- Placements may be located in Groton, New London, or North Stonington, Connecticut.
- You are responsible for arranging your own housing and transportation.
