About the role#
The Concept Formulation team manages research and development efforts, payload integration, and warfare analysis for submarine programs. This internship places you within the R&D or Capability Insertions groups to support ongoing technology studies and strategic planning. You will work alongside senior staff to bridge engineering concepts with program coordination.
What you'll do#
- Assist R&D leads with various project tasks.
- Research payloads including kinetic systems, countermeasures, special operations forces equipment, and unmanned underwater vehicles for platform integration.
- Brainstorm and present future submarine concepts.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a full-time student pursuing a Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or Systems Engineering.
- Completion of at least your freshman year before the internship begins.
- US citizenship and the ability to pass a medically supervised drug screen and background check.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week for at least eight consecutive weeks between May 2027 and September 2027.
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- Proficiency in the MS Office suite and strong communication skills.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, full-time, on-site internship for Summer 2027.
- Locations include Groton, New London, and North Stonington, Connecticut, as well as North Kingstown and Newport, Rhode Island.
- You are responsible for your own housing and transportation.
