About the role#
GEMTEC Consulting Engineers & Scientists Limited is seeking a Field Technician for a co-op placement in Ottawa, Ontario. This is a full-time, paid position for the Fall 2026 term, beginning in September 2026. This role requires on-site work and a valid driver’s license with access to a personal vehicle.
What you'll do#
- Perform field testing and sampling of aggregates, soils, concrete, and asphalt.
- Conduct compaction testing on subgrade soils, aggregates, and asphalt.
- Carry out subgrade and foundation inspections.
- Support various office and field tasks related to materials testing, geotechnical engineering, and environmental engineering.
- Complete other duties as required.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent completion of a College Diploma in civil technology or an equivalent program.
- Experience with materials testing and inspection.
- Experience working in civil construction.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

- Location: Ottawa, Ontario.
- Term: Fall 2026.
- Compensation: $20.50 - $23.50 CAD per hour.
