About the role#
This summer internship offers experience in both office and field environments within the construction industry. You will work under the direction of the Safety Manager to support safety operations across infrastructure projects. This role requires travel to job sites in Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa, with potential travel to other states.
What you'll do#
- Assist in creating Site-Specific Safety Plans and planning high-risk activities.
- Coordinate with project teams to maintain a safe working environment.
- Attend all-hands site safety meetings and foreman coordination meetings to voice safety concerns.
- Assist with safety permits, including hot work, LOTO, trenching, and confined space entry.
- Review crane pick plans, confined space entry plans, incident reports, and safety policies.
- Conduct weekly site safety audits and ensure subcontractors follow OSHA, state, and site-specific regulations.
- Collect and record project data.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Safety Management, Industrial Engineering, or similar degree program.
- Completion of at least two years of your education.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain focus in busy environments.
- A desire to work in a team-driven setting.
- Previous internships are a plus.
- Ability to sit, stand, climb, and work on active construction sites for extended periods.
- Comfort working at heights using ladders, scaffolds, or stairs, and the ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
