    About the role#

    The Family, Friends, and Neighbors (FNN) Internship is a part-time position based at Grandma’s House in Cloquet, Minnesota. This role supports Gookonaanig Endaawaad, a language Nest that provides Ojibwe immersion experiences for infants, toddlers, and their parents. Interns work on-site to assist with daily programming and contribute to the preservation of the Ojibwe language and culture.

    What you'll do#

    • Provide Ojibwe immersion services during Nest programming hours.
    • Assist with daily activities for caregivers and children aged 0-3.
    • Work with the Nest Facilitator to develop and implement curriculum and resources for families.
    • Support the Language Nest Facilitator and Cultural Specialist with harvesting, preparing, and serving traditional foods.
    • Develop skills in planning and teaching activities for children and families.
    • Participate in the Adult Immersion Academy and required program evaluation meetings.
    • Work with staff on an Ojibwe language proficiency development plan.
    • Complete required training, including child development courses, first aid, and CPR.
    • Maintain program site organization, cleanliness, and record confidentiality.

    What you'll need#

    • Demonstrated experience working with Native American clients and community, with proven cultural sensitivity.
    • Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Access, and word processing.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
    • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
    • Commitment to developing proficiency in the Ojibwe language, including the double vowel system.
    • Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships.
    • Knowledge of Native American communities, customs, and beliefs is preferred.
    • Experience in an Ojibwe immersion environment is preferred.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Cloquet, Minnesota (On-site).
    • Compensation: $22.34 to $25.13 per hour.
    • Employment Type: Part-time.
    • Requirements: Subject to drug and alcohol testing, as well as pre-employment and annual background checks. Some travel is required. Work may occur in various indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.
