About the role#
This is a paid, full-time summer internship designed for students interested in a career in financial services. You will gain exposure to commercial banking operations, credit risk assessment, and relationship management. Throughout the 12-week program, you will work on projects that support our banking teams and engage with leadership across the organization.
What you'll do#
- Learn the commercial banking sales cycle, relationship banking, and whole-bank selling techniques.
- Analyze financial data and assess credit risk as part of the team-based credit decision process.
- Complete trend reports for borrowing base certificates, covenant monitoring, and annual credit reviews.
- Attend loan committees and participate in opportunity memorandum discussions.
- Assist relationship managers with prospecting activities and join client calls.
- Monitor loan maturity dates and recommend renewal strategies.
- Participate in a coordinated community service project.
- Network with executive and senior leadership.
- Present a summary of your experience at the end of the internship.
What you'll need#
- Full-time enrollment in a Bachelor or higher degree program at an accredited college or university, with a preference for majors in Business Administration, Finance, or Economics.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Availability to work 40 hours per week from May 17, 2027, to August 6, 2027.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Demonstrated interest in the financial services industry.
- Ability and willingness to travel periodically throughout the First Merchants footprint.
- Strong work ethic, self-motivation, initiative, enthusiasm, and a team mentality.
