About the role#
This internship provides an opportunity to gain experience in transportation consulting. You will work alongside staff on projects to build your professional skills. We provide ongoing feedback and assign tasks similar to those of our entry-level staff. Schedules are determined based on your availability and office needs.
What you'll do#
- Analyze and solve complex transportation planning or engineering problems.
- Work on projects such as traffic operations simulations, bicycle and pedestrian plans, freight movement, traffic impact studies, travel demand modeling, transit planning, and regional transportation plans.
- Communicate clearly in writing and orally, including during community engagement.
- Use software to make informed recommendations.
- Learn and adopt new tools and technologies while maintaining professional judgment and accountability.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or completion of a bachelor's degree (junior or senior standing) or a master's degree.
- Relevant majors include Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Statistics, Economics, Sociology, Anthropology, Graphic Design, or Data Science.
- Strong interest or knowledge of transportation planning and engineering principles.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
- A desire to partner with and serve local communities.
- Proficiency in at least one of the following: Microsoft Excel, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, ArcGIS, statistical software (Stata, R, SPSS), traffic operations software (VISSIM, Synchro), design software (AutoCAD, MicroStation), or travel demand modeling software (TransCAD, Cube).
