    About the role#

    Engineers and Geoscientists BC is seeking an Articling Student to join the team beginning in September 2027. This role provides hands-on experience in professional governance, regulatory decision-making, and discipline processes. The student will work under the supervision of the Manager, Legal Counsel Policy while supporting the broader organization. During the term, the student will receive training in ethics, practice management, and lawyering skills, including research, drafting, advocacy, and negotiation, as required by the Law Society of British Columbia.

    What you'll do#

    • Analyze and advise on issues related to the Professional Governance Act.
    • Conduct legal research into policy, privacy, and governance matters.
    • Prepare legal memoranda, bylaw amendments, presentations, and reports.
    • Assist with the investigation and discipline of registrants, including the drafting and negotiation of Consent Orders.
    • Support files related to unauthorized practice, misuse of title, and associated court applications.
    • Assist with matters involving external organizations such as the Ombudsperson, the Human Rights Tribunal, and the courts.

    What you'll need#

    • An undergraduate law degree with excellent grades.
    • Immediate eligibility for enrollment in the Law Society of British Columbia articling program.
    • Completion of the June 2027 Accelerated PREP session.
    • Demonstrated interest in administrative law, contract law, civil litigation, and privacy law.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Burnaby, British Columbia.
    • Term: Starting September 2027.
    • Work Modality: Hybrid, with a minimum of 2 days per week required in-office.
    • Compensation: $65,500 annual salary plus 8% in lieu of benefits and payment for the Law Society of BC bar admission program.
    • Time Off: 10 vacation days per annum (pro-rated) and a flex day program.
    • Commuting: Free parking is provided, and transit reimbursement is available.
