About the role#
This internship provides an opportunity to work with the Transportation group on automotive, rail, and marine systems. You will assist consultants in evaluating performance, failure, and safety through engineering research and technical investigation. This is a full-time, paid position based in Ann Arbor.
What you'll do#
- Assist with field investigations and site inspections.
- Perform engineering research, data collection, and analysis.
- Help prepare technical reports and project documents.
- Participate in laboratory testing and analysis activities.
- Organize evidence and technical data for consultants.
- Attend client meetings and internal technical reviews.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in Mechanical, Biomedical, Bioengineering, Materials Science, or Civil/Structural Engineering.
- A GPA of 3.30 or higher is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, with CAD or engineering analysis software experience being a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- A valid driver license and availability to travel for field work.
- No prior professional experience is required.
Location & details#
- Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan.
- Term: Winter 2028.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week). If enrolled in classes, you must work at least 32 hours per week and take no more than two courses.
- Physical Requirements: You must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally. The role involves bending, kneeling, and working in various field environments including industrial sites or damaged structures.
