About the role#
As a Stations Co-op Student, you will work alongside experienced Substation Technicians to gain hands-on experience in the utility industry. You will assist with the maintenance, testing, and inspection of electrical substation equipment while applying your classroom knowledge in a practical environment. This role requires travel to various locations within the Elexicon jurisdiction to support emergency calls and substation alarms.
What you'll do#
- Assist with preventative and corrective maintenance, including work on power transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, disconnect switches, fuses, and battery systems.
- Support testing, troubleshooting, and documentation of substation equipment.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and single-line drawings.
- Follow safe work practices as defined by IHSA, the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, and company standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment through routine housekeeping.
- Develop an understanding of isolation, grounding, and bonding techniques.
- Comply with regulatory requirements including the Ontario Traffic Manual, Field Book 7, OHSA, and Reg. 22/04.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Electrical Engineering Technology or related college program.
- Eligibility for a recognized co-op education work term.
- A valid G Ontario Driver’s License in good standing.
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
- Completed Working at Heights training.
- Knowledge of WHIMIS, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, and the Ontario Electrical Safety Code.
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with a willingness to learn from experienced personnel.
- Ability to work safely around energized electrical equipment.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
