About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern at CarelonRx, you will support our clinical teams by managing prescription data and processing prior authorizations. This role provides an opportunity to gain experience in pharmacy operations while working in a hybrid environment. You will be expected to work 20 hours per week.
What you'll do#
- Interpret and enter moderately complex prescriptions into our systems.
- Process prior authorization requests received from physicians' offices.
- Troubleshoot adjudication issues and verify member, provider, and drug information.
- Assist in the development and configuration of prior authorization decision trees within our workflow tools.
- Participate in quality assurance feedback sessions with pharmacists regarding decision trees.
- Support the implementation of clinical programs within the prior authorization space.
- Educate providers on pharmacy-based rules, medication resources, and assistance programs.
- Ensure all work complies with Medicare and Medicaid requirements and inform relevant parties of authorization determinations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Pharmacy program at an accredited college or university.
- A current, active, and unrestricted Pharmacist Intern license in the applicable state.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Public speaking and presentation skills.
- Preference is given to 1st and 2nd year PharmD students.
- Prior experience in a retail pharmacy setting is strongly preferred.

- This position is hybrid. You must reside within a commutable distance of one of our offices in Richmond, VA; Atlanta, GA; Indianapolis, IN; Mason, OH; Cincinnati, OH; St. Louis, MO; or Winston-Salem, NC.
- This is a paid internship.
