About the role#
The Continuous Improvement Intern will work directly with production and support teams to observe processes, analyze data, and help implement sustainable improvements. This role focuses on enhancing safety, quality, delivery, and cost through Lean methods. You will spend significant time on the shop floor to identify bottlenecks and support kaizen events.
What you'll do#
- Support kaizen events and improvement projects from initial observation through implementation and follow-up.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret manufacturing data related to labor, downtime, quality, capacity, and material flow.
- Conduct time studies and process observations to identify bottlenecks and improvement opportunities.
- Develop and update standard work instructions, process documentation, and other visual standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to test solutions and track action items.
- Ensure safety requirements are followed during all improvement activities.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a four-year degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Technology.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical instructions.
- High mechanical aptitude with the ability to complete moderate-level mathematical calculations.
- Comfort working in a factory shop floor environment.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027.
- The role is based 100% on-site in Des Moines, Iowa.
- Some travel may be required on occasion.
