About the role#
DOWL is seeking a Transportation Engineering Intern for the Summer 2027 term in Billings, Montana. This full-time, paid internship provides an opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals on various engineering projects. You will receive one-on-one mentorship while gaining hands-on experience in design, analysis, and field work. While the role is based in an office, you will have opportunities to assist with field investigations and site condition analysis.
What you'll do#
- Assist with field investigations, analysis of alternative solutions, and project design.
- Perform engineering calculations to support design projects.
- Calculate construction quantities from plans and specifications to tabulate bid items and estimate construction costs.
- Provide drafting support using AutoCAD or MicroStation.
- Assist with writing and editing construction specifications and technical reports.
- Prepare and route project-related correspondence and maintain records.
What you'll need#
- At least one year of college-level course work toward a baccalaureate degree in civil engineering.
- A valid driver’s license.
- The ability to perform essential engineering duties satisfactorily.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong communication skills to present information to clients and co-workers.
