About the role#
Dominion Energy is seeking an Electrical Equipment Technician Intern for the Summer 2027 term. Based at the Midlothian District office, you will work with the Electric Transmission Field Operations team to maintain high-voltage electrical equipment. This role provides direct field experience alongside professionals who support the reliability of the power grid. You will also gain exposure to the Electrical Equipment Development Program to learn about future career pathways at the company.
What you'll do#
- Support personnel with the installation and maintenance of substation and power station equipment.
- Assist with testing equipment including transformers, circuit breakers, regulators, and CCVTs.
- Participate in infrared and aerial lift testing.
- Collect and analyze oil samples from circuit breakers and transformers.
- Help install and test battery and charger systems.
- Assist with the processing of transformers.
- Contribute to the procurement of specialized tools, spare parts, and materials.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a 2-year or 4-year technology degree program, such as Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Instrumentation Technology.
- An anticipated graduation date of Fall 2026 or later.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
- A strong interest in hands-on technical work.
- Mechanical and electrical problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work safely in a field environment and follow instructions.
- Strong aptitude for math and mechanical systems.
- Effective teamwork, communication, and time management skills.
