About the role#
This internship supports the implementation and improvement of the Dominion Energy operational planning platform. You will gain hands-on experience with electric utility operations and distribution system planning. The role focuses on using data-driven tools to improve distribution grid visibility and operational decision-making.
What you'll do#
- Learn the reliability analysis platform and how it integrates with DERMS and related systems.
- Document system interfaces, data flows, and business processes.
- Evaluate existing workflows to find opportunities for standardization and improvement.
- Perform data quality checks and validate incoming data for accuracy.
- Investigate data anomalies by collaborating with engineering, IT, and business stakeholders.
- Build reports and dashboards to track data quality and integration metrics.
- Participate in system testing, including user acceptance testing and issue tracking.
- Present your findings and recommendations to the project team throughout the summer.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing an undergraduate or master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or computer engineering.
- Completed your freshman year with a cumulative GPA above 2.5 at an ABET-accredited university.
- Interest in smart grid technologies, electric utility operations, or DER integration.
- Solid engineering skills appropriate for your grade level.
- Analytical and abstract thinking skills with the ability to apply engineering theories to industrial problems.
- Strong communication skills and professional ethics.
- Ability to organize tasks, manage projects, and make effective decisions.
- Proficiency with basic computer software.
- Experience with SQL, Python, or Power BI is a plus.
- A valid driver's license.
- Rising sophomores and juniors are preferred.

- Status: Full-time.
- Compensation: $25.00 - $37.00 per hour, depending on academic major and school classification.
