The DP Empowered: Student Success Teacher role is a core component of the 4-year advising program for students in grades 9–12. This position focuses on preparing students for high school success and the development of personalized post-secondary plans through a combination of whole-group instruction and advising. You will help students explore their identities, develop academic and life skills, and navigate potential career paths using a curriculum that emphasizes hands-on projects, reflection, and discussion.
What you'll do#
- Lead the DP Empowered class, including intellectual preparation and the execution of curriculum lesson plans.
- Facilitate age-appropriate conversations and activities centered on current events, community service, and the celebration of student culture and identity.
- Help students explore and cultivate personal, career, and academic interests through in-class experiences and individual check-ins.
- Build a positive classroom culture through effective management practices.
- Conduct ongoing group advising sessions to assess the academic, emotional, social, and behavioral needs of students.
- Collaborate with the Scholar Support and social work teams to determine steps to support student success.
- Assist students in identifying and applying to summer opportunities.
- Cultivate partnerships with students, families, and the school's support team.
What you'll need#
- A Bachelor’s degree (required); an MSW or MSEd in School Counseling is preferred.
- Experience in both teaching and school counseling or social work.
- Strong interest in and skill with project-based learning and discussion-based activities.
- High proficiency in classroom management.
- Ability to provide strong feedback on student work and craft written communications, such as student recommendations.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Commitment to a holistic approach to education that addresses academic, social-emotional, and behavioral factors.

- Salary: $70,000 - $80,000, commensurate with experience
