About the role#
Democracy Forward Foundation is seeking candidates for a one-year, full-time Legal Fellowship starting in September 2027. This position is designed for rising third-year law students and recent graduates who are fewer than three years post-graduation. The fellowship includes a salary of $80,000, contingent on the receipt of external funding, and access to a benefits package including health, dental, and vision coverage. While the role is based in Washington, DC, it operates on a hybrid schedule requiring an in-office presence eight times per month.
What you'll do#
Fellows serve as full members of litigation case teams and contribute to the following areas:
- Partner with lawyers in proceedings before federal and state courts and agencies, including advising on legal strategy and objectives.
- Conduct legal research and draft substantive documents, such as briefs, motions, comments, and regulatory filings.
- Assist in preparing for court appearances, arguments, and hearings.
- Monitor and screen potential cases to provide recommendations for litigation involvement or regulatory advocacy.
What you'll need#
- A J.D. from an accredited law school by September 2027.
- Active membership in the bar of a state or the District of Columbia.
- Demonstrated excellence in legal research and drafting, with high attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
- A commitment to democracy and social progress.
- Collaborative skills and experience or interest in mission-driven advocacy work.
