The News team is seeking an intern for the Fall 2026 term to contribute to coverage of democracy, voting rights, and election law. This position offers the opportunity to pitch and publish original work while gaining hands-on experience within a national digital media platform. Interns receive mentorship, regular feedback, and professional development opportunities throughout the program.
What you'll do#
- Pitch and write original stories, including breaking news and longer-form pieces.
- Assist with research, fact-checking, and interview coordination.
- Support day-to-day newsroom operations, particularly regarding quick-turn assignments.
- Help develop stories that require additional reporting capacity.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student, ideally in journalism, political science, or a related field.
- Strong writing, reporting, and communication skills.
- Ability to work quickly and accurately under deadline pressure.
- A demonstrated interest in democracy, voting rights, or election law.
Location & details#
- Location: Washington, D.C.
- Term: Fall 2026 (September 15 – December 11).
- Modality: On-site (required to be in the office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday).
- Schedule: Part-time, 15–20 hours per week.
- Compensation: $20 per hour.
