About the role#
As an Electrical Engineering Intern, you will work with a project team to perform engineering and design tasks. You will gain hands-on experience while applying engineering principles under the supervision of senior staff. This role involves both office-based design work and site visits to support substation projects.
What you'll do#
- Create design documents, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials.
- Apply field mark-ups to project as-built drawings.
- Perform engineering support tasks including relay burden, lighting, load flow, and short circuit calculations.
- Use engineering software for ground grid design, relay coordination, and transformer sizing.
- Learn and apply industry standards such as NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI.
- Visit job sites to gain practical knowledge of substation construction.
- Identify project problems and suggest solutions.
- Complete assigned tasks to meet project schedules.
- Travel out of town for short periods as required.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program in Electrical Engineering at an accredited university.
- A power focus and prior internship or work experience in the power field are preferred.
- Foundational knowledge of electrical AC/DC and three-phase power systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well within a team.
- Proficiency in common word processing, spreadsheet, and email software.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
