About the role#
As a Civil Engineering Intern, you will work with a project team to create or modify civil and structural design documents and drawings. You will perform engineering support tasks, including structural analysis and wind load calculations. This role involves learning corporate engineering practices and applying standards such as NESC, IEEE, ANSI, AISC, and ACI. You will also gain hands-on experience in substation construction and design through job site visits. This is a paid, full-time position that requires the ability to travel out of town for short periods.
What you'll do#
- Create or modify civil and structural design documents and drawings under supervision.
- Perform engineering support tasks like structural analysis and wind load calculations.
- Learn to use the document management system and apply corporate engineering standards.
- Visit job sites to gain hands-on training in substation construction.
- Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of your work.
- Identify potential project problems and bring possible solutions to the responsible party.
- Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program for Civil Engineering at an accredited university.
- A power focus and prior internship experience in the power field are preferred.
- Knowledge of steel and concrete design and basic structural analysis.
- Proficiency with standard word processing, spreadsheet, and email software.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and communicate with co-workers, vendors, and clients.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
