About the role#
This internship supports the Staker Parson Safety Department in Ogden, Utah. You will gain hands-on experience in industrial hygiene, safety audits, and regulatory compliance throughout the summer of 2027. This is a full-time, on-site role that runs from May through August.
What you'll do#
- Support daily operations of the Safety Department and participate in internal safety audits across multiple business lines.
- Conduct industrial hygiene sampling for noise and silica, including scheduling dates with operations supervisors at active mine locations.
- Manage sample handling, chain-of-custody documentation, and laboratory interactions.
- Review sampling results against MSHA exposure limits and communicate findings to employees and management.
- Create noise maps for plants and prepare reports for department meetings.
- Present a summary of sampling statistics at the end of the internship.
- Maintain a strong safety culture by following all procedures and wearing required PPE.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or graduation from a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
- Ability to read and interpret corporate policies and government regulations from OSHA and MSHA.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Reliable personal transportation is required for travel between job sites.
- Willingness to travel and stay overnight as needed.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
- Industrial hygiene experience or completion of relevant university courses is preferred.
