About the role#
Community Impact offers an internship program for those starting a career in community journalism. You will work alongside editors and reporters to learn newsroom operations. This is a full-time, paid position lasting 10 to 12 weeks during the summer of 2026.
What you'll do#
- Write stories for the web and the print publication.
- Shadow reporters during local government meetings.
- Write for the Impacts and To-do List sections of the paper.
- Attend community meetings and connect with local sources.
- Take photos for news assignments.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a journalism or communications degree program, or graduation within six months of the start date.
- Experience writing in AP Style, preferably for a student publication or media company.
- Reliable transportation to get to meetings and community events.
- Availability to work some evening shifts to cover council meetings.
Location & details#
- Location: Pflugerville, Texas.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday with occasional evening work.
