About the role#
The Committee for Public Counsel Services in Brockton is hiring law students for a paid internship during the Winter 2027 term. This is a full-time, on-site position focused on public defense and advocacy.
What you'll do#
Interns work alongside attorneys, investigators, and social service advocates to support client representation. You will:
- Conduct client interviews.
- Assist with arraignment and bail arguments.
- Perform legal research.
- Draft pretrial motions, affidavits, and legal memoranda.
- Carry out pretrial investigations, including visiting crime locations and interviewing witnesses.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in law school.
- Completion of, or current enrollment in, an evidence or trial practice class.
- Written approval from your Dean for SJC Rule 3:03 representation.
- Preferred: SJC Rule 3.03 certification.
- Preferred: Coursework in criminal law, evidence, constitutional law, trial advocacy, or critical legal theory.
